We offer a number of standard search packages, which include species, habitat and sites data. Prices apply only to chargeable data requests. Not all packages may be available for all enquiry types.

• Package DP – No Charge: Data Search Public/Academics – Data Search to members of public and academic institutions
• Package DX – No Charge: Standard Data Search all spp in >2km and <5kmbuffer – Standard Data Search all species between 2 and 5km buffer
• Package GP1 – No Charge: General Public Enquiry – This package provides summary data of species recorded at a site or in a local area (restricted to a 500m point buffer). It is for members of the public for personal interest.
• Package ST1 – from £189.58 + VAT: Standard Data Search in 1km buffer – This package provides a full species search (including protected/priority/INNS) within a 1km buffer of the search point or polygon, as well non-statutory and statutory site data.
• Package ST2 – from £257.08 + VAT: Standard Data Search in 2km buffer – This package provides a full species search (including protected/priority/INNS) within a 2km buffer of the search point or polygon, as well as non-statutory and statutory site data.

You will receive an instant quote for the search, so as soon as you accept the quote and submit your request, we will begin processing the search. We aim to provide all Ecological Data Search reports within five working days. We also offer a Custom Search, at additional cost, for specialist enquiries which do not fall within our standard packages.

Additional Items
Many of our Standard Data Search Packages allow you to add Additional Items. This will allow you to request records for specific species sets (e.g. bats, GCN) in a chosen radius from your search point, line, or polygon. For example, you may add a 4km bat record search as an Additional Item onto your standard 2km P&P Species, Sites, and Habitats package. The Additional Items will be added to your package choice and calculate a new cost.

Custom Searches
Although you can specify a Custom Search or add some custom notes using the Additional Items button, Custom Searches usually take time to agree and are no cheaper than our Standard Data Search Packages, so we will always recommend a Standard Data Search Package. For example, if you request a Custom Search for bats only at 2km we will recommend our 2km All Species Records package, as the way the way the data are presented will allow you to filter for just what you need, and you will receive an immediate quote.

Other Services
Where available, we can also provide Site Citations for Local Wildlife Sites at a cost of £14.58 per citation + VAT. Please contact us directly to request these once you have received your search results and have identified the Citations you wish to purchase. Species distribution maps and Phase 1 habitat information and target notes can also be provided by direct request.

DLRC does not usually charge for Ecological Data Searches for bona fide naturalists, scholars, academics or landowners who have allowed data pertaining to their land to be used by the Centre. See DLRC Charging Policy for details and exceptions.

Non-Chargeable Ecological Data Searches can be requested in the normal way by selecting your relevant request type (either Partner, Public, Academic) and filling in the online form by selecting one of the available packages.

Non-Chargeable requests can be made for any other data using a Custom Search, e.g. specific species or species groups, non-Notable species lists, habitats and sites. Please provide the reasons you believe this search should not be chargeable in your request.

Please note than any search by or on behalf of a developer or landowner seeking to develop land will normally incur a charge and should be submitted using the Chargeable Data Searches request type.

A standard search includes:

● Map showing boundaries of International nature conservation sites (SAC, SPA, Ramsar)
● Map showing boundaries of National nature conservation sites (SSSI, NNR, National Parks, AONB)
● Map showing boundaries of Local nature conservation sites (LNR, Local Wildlife Sites/SINC/SNCI) and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust Reserves
● Map of habitats listed on the National Habitat Inventories, including the Ancient Woodland Inventory
● Summary document of relevant sites, including site name, grid reference ( and site code, status where relevant) and details of habitat locations
● Excel spreadsheet of species records, including species name, survey name, location, grid reference, date, recorder name, and record type

If you require sites data as shapefiles for use in GIS and other mapping software, this can be requested in the Notes section of your request. We can provide data in this format at no additional charge.

Specific locations of confidential or sensitive records may be omitted from the search results. The enquirer will be notified if any records have been omitted from the data search. Species records are limited to records from the last 50 years unless otherwise specified. If you require a search of all historical records from our database please let us know.

You can request data at any time, but we will usually only deal with your request between 9am and 5pm, Wednesday to Friday.

● Standard Ecological Data Search Packages will usually be returned within five working days.
● Custom Ecological Data Search Requests will usually be responded to within five working days. This may be longer depending on our workload and the complexity of the request. Once agreeing your requirements and the price quoted, we will return the Ecological Data Search results within twenty working days.

DLRC is able to offer cross-boundary Ecological Data Searches with NEYEDC and West Yorkshire Ecology Service for standard 1km and 2km point and radius searches. These provide a cheaper alternative with less administration than ordering separately from the respective LERCs.

Where ecological data searches are centred in the DLRC geographic area and extend into the areas listed above, you will receive data from both Local Environmental Records Centres as part of a single DLRC data search. If your ecological data search area is centred in NEYEDC or West Yorkshire, but extends into DLRC territory, you will be directed to their Ecological Data Search service and they will supply you with included and relevant DLRC data.

For non-standard or custom searches (i.e. those that are larger than a 2km point and radius search or equivalent area), Ecological Data Searches will still need to be made to each Local Environmental Records Centre separately.

For Chargeable Ecological Data Searches an invoice will be sent by email once the request has been fulfilled. If the invoice needs to be sent to someone other than yourself (e.g. Accounts Department) you can create a billing contact as part of the data request. If your company uses a specific email address to which invoices should be sent (e.g. invoices@), please ensure this is also specified in your request.

If your company uses Purchase Orders, please ensure that you obtain a Purchase Order reference before making your request, otherwise this can cause delays.
